The cellulite (orange skin) is the wavy appearance of the skin, usually on the thighs and buttocks of women. This is a purely cosmetic problem, not a medical condition, but for some people is a real problem. It is caused by fat deposits that accumulate along with the collagen fibers, anchoring below the muscle. When the fibers are stretched or fatty areas get larger (which happens to fat), fat deposits may bulge. Cellulite is more common in women than in men.
In here we present some myths associated with cellulites, and the truths that will help reduce it.
Thin people do not have cellulite – Cellulite is related to the structures of the skin, so even thin women can present it. If you have thin skin, cellulite becomes more visible. This disorder is hereditary, if your mom has it, chances are that you too, but can also be caused by hormonal changes in pregnancy or aging.
A tan can hide cellulite: This is another myth, that the tan fade cellulite can be even worse. This is because UV rays damage the skin making it thinner.
A related truth is that cellulite reducing weight can be a good strategy to mitigate it. In a small 2006 study, improved the appearance of cellulite in 17 women who participated in weight loss under medical supervision (average weight loss was 30 pounds). However, nine women, cellulite seemed to worsen, especially if the skin was loose after losing weight.
Some factors that worsen this condition are: a diet too rich in carbohydrates, an increase in total body fat, being inactive, or fluid retention. Therefore, a healthy lifestyle that incorporates exercise with proper nutrition will help us maintain a healthy and beautiful skin, or if you have cellulite, prevent it from getting worse, and even a little better.
